Introduction

We are seeking an experienced and certified Rigger to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely preparing, coordinating, executing lifting and rigging operations. The role requires strong technical knowledge of lifting equipment, load dynamics, safe working loads, lifting angles and crane operations, as well as the ability to develop and follow complex lift plans.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Heavy Lifting operations – safely assess requirements and execute specialised rigging. Calculating safe lifting angles, radii and loads for mobile cranes, forklift and overhead cranes.
  • Be able to compile complex lift plans
  • Excellent knowledge of lifting and rigging safety requirements
  • Equipment maintenance – Inspect and colour code all lifting gear (slings, shackles, chains, eyebolts0) in compliance with SAQA and mine safety standards
  • Conduct legal pre-use inspections on lifting tackle
  • Keep accurate registers
  • Complete permits
  • Must be willing to work overtime
  • Strong knowledge of load dynamics and safe working loads (SWL)
  • Physical fitness and free from vertigo

 

Desired Experience & Qualification

EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years plus of documented rigging experience in a heavy industry or mining environment
  • Valid Working at heights training
  • Code 8 (EB) drivers licence

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12 (must have good English literacy skills in order to compile lifting plans)
  • N2 with 4 relevant subjects
  • A valid Red Seal Rigging Trade Certificate (Section 13 or26D)
