Job Description

On behalf of our client, we are looking for an Offshore Pedestal Crane Operator

Vessel / Flag: DVD
Location: Ghana / Worldwide
Position: Offshore Pedestal Crane Operator
Contract Start: ASAP (TBC)
Contract Duration: 12 months (renewable)
Work/Leave Cycle: 28 days on duty / 28 days off duty

Mission
Operate and maintain the pedestal crane onboard offshore construction vessels, ensuring safe and efficient lifting operations in compliance with industry standards, company policies, and manufacturer’s instructions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the pedestal crane within design load capacity, considering weather and sea state conditions.

  • Perform basket transfers where permitted and safe to do so.

  • Conduct unsupervised lifts in line with certification (Level 2 – inboard; Level 3 – offshore).

  • Ensure awareness of crane limits, vessel equipment, and other crane operations.

  • Operate knuckle boom cranes and heave compensation systems where applicable.

  • Work with supervisors to define and follow lifting procedures.

  • Report malfunctions and liaise with engineering staff for maintenance.

  • Carry out daily and weekly inspections, routine maintenance, and housekeeping.

  • Record all lifts above 50 tons in the crane logbook.

  • Stop lifting operations if safety or technical concerns arise.

  • Report to the 1st Assistant and follow instructions from the Deck Foreman or 2nd Assistant.

Requirements

  • Valid Offshore Crane Operator certification:

    • Level 2 – Unsupervised inboard lifts

    • Level 3 – Unsupervised offshore lifts

  • Experience in offshore crane operations, ideally on construction vessels.

  • Strong knowledge of offshore safety standards, lifting procedures, and permit-to-work systems.

  • Ability to read lifting plans, derating tables, and equipment specifications.

  • Good communication, teamwork, and safety awareness.

  • Valid offshore safety and medical certificates (e.g., BOSIET/FOET, HUET, OGUK/Seafarer’s Medical).
