Crane Operator

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Strict adherence to TMS safety policies and procedures
  2. Check shift report book and liaise with previous shift for any relevant information during shift change over
  3. Conduct thorough and documented Pre-Shift Inspections of the crane and work area
  4. Inspect all ropes and chains for visible damage/wear
  5. Inspect machine for damage/leaks and report to Supervisor immediately
  6. Inspect drop ball for major defects/damage
  7. Operate the drop ball crane to break down scrap metal, ensuring materials are placed level and stable to reduce hazards.
  8. Load processed scrap into appropriate dumper trucks. Avoid overloading the dumper trucks
  9. Ensure daily achievement of the shift targets (KPI)
  10. To liaise with production supervisor to ensure compliance, reporting of any process changes or emergencies

Desired Experience & Qualification

    • Grade 11 minimum qualification + code 8 drivers License
    • Ability to read and understand safety and operating procedures
    • Conversant in English
    • Prior experience operating  drop-ball cranes
    • Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
    • Good team working skills
    • Good health & fit for duty
    • Effective communication skills
    • Maintenance & housekeeping inside the crane cab
    • Must be able to work under pressure (adverse weather conditions, heat & rainfall)
