Key Responsibilities
Crane Operation: Operate heavy overhead, gantry, or bridge cranes to transport raw materials and finished steel products.
Load Management: Select, secure, and move materials using appropriate attachments like magnets, chains, or slings.
Safety Inspections: Perform pre-operational checks on crane components, brakes, and safety devices before each shift.
Communication: Coordinate movements with spotters and ground crews using radio or hand signals.
Maintenance: Perform minor repairs, clean equipment, and report malfunctions to supervisors.
Production Support: Feed furnaces, manage slag, and transport materials within the plant.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience: Previous experience (typically 1–2+ years) with industrial or overhead cranes in a heavy manufacturing environment.
Technical Knowledge: Understanding of rigging techniques, crane capacities, and load stability.
Certification: Valid crane operator license or certification (e.g., NCCCO or local equivalent) is generally required.
