Rigger/Welder
Permanent, Full-time position (40 hours per week)
$80,000 - $98,000 per annum
Auckland-based with regular travel to our Masterton facility (2 weeks of the month).

Walter & Wild Ltd is a food manufacturing business operating multiple production sites across New Zealand. We undertake regular capital projects, plant upgrades and equipment installations to support safe, reliable production.
Role purpose
The Project Rigger/Welder is responsible for carrying out industrial rigging, heavy machinery relocation and installation, and welding and fabrication work associated with capital projects and plant maintenance.
The role involves working on production lines, pipework, stainless steel equipment and structural components within food manufacturing environments, ensuring all work is completed safely and to engineering and food-grade standards.
This role requires regular travel and the ability to work away from home for several weeks at a time to support capital project needs.
Rigging, Heavy Machinery & Plant Relocation
- Responsible for planning and executing rigging, lifting, positioning, installation, and relocation of heavy plant, machinery, conveyors, pipework, and structural components in accordance with approved lift plans and engineering requirements.
- Conduct pre-use inspections of lifting equipment and heavy machinery, ensuring all equipment is certified, fit for purpose, and compliant with site requirements.
- Coordinate plant relocation and installation activities to minimise production disruption and ensure safe commissioning and handover.
Welding & Fabrication
- Perform pressure welding and fitter-welding STICK, MIG, TIG, and Arc welding to required engineering, hygiene, and food-grade standards.
- Fabricate, modify, repair, and install stainless steel, mild steel and aluminium components used in food manufacturing operations.
- Ensure weld integrity and finish meet operational and food safety requirements.
Maintenance & Shutdown support
- Support reactive maintenance, planned preventative maintenance, and major shutdowns.
- Assist with fault identification and corrective actions.
- Provide practical input into continuous improvement initiatives relating to plant reliability, safety, and efficiency.
Experience & Skills
- At least 5 years’ relevant industrial welding and rigging experience
- Demonstrated work experience in
STICK, MIG, and TIG welding.
- Experience with stainless stell fabrication
- Experience installing and relocating heavy industrial machinery
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and lift plans.
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety obligations.
- Physically capable of performing manual tasks associated with the role.
- Willingness and ability to travel nationally and stay away from home for extended periods
