Description

We are seeking a hands-on and reliable Junior Rigger to support the installation, maintenance and deployment of telecoms infrastructure across our network in Gauteng. This is a critical field-based role, working closely with our Lead Rigging Engineer to ensure that all site work is executed safely, efficiently and to the highest standard.

The ideal candidate is practical, physically fit and comfortable working in outdoor environments. You should be someone who takes pride in your work, follows instructions well and understands the importance of safety and teamwork in high-risk environments.

You will form part of a growing field operations team responsible for building and maintaining the infrastructure that powers our network. Key Responsibilities:

You will assist with the installation, maintenance and deployment of telecoms infrastructure, including:

  • Assisting with rigging of masts, towers and related structures.
  • Supporting infrastructure deployments (including trenching, groundwork and installations).
  • Installation of infrastructure equipment and site components.
  • Installation of protective structures and site security elements.
  • Trenching and grounding (earthing) for infrastructure systems.
  • Assisting with installation, securing and maintenance of power-related equipment.
  • Foundation preparation and general site construction work.
  • Fabrication of infrastructure components and equipment housings.
  • Basic welding and metalwork as required.
  • Assisting field and Infrastructure teams where required.
  • Deployment and removal of site equipment.
  • Preventative maintenance on all masts, towers and related structures in the field or at company premises.

Working Conditions & Availability

  • This role is field-based and requires travel to various sites across Gauteng.
  • Must be willing to work outside of standard working hours when required (including early mornings, evenings and weekends).
  • Must be available for standby duties and call-outs, based on operational requirements.
  • Comfortable working in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain strict adherence to safety standards.
  • Follow all rigging and working-at-height protocols.
  • Ensure safe handling of tools, equipment and materials.
  • Work closely with the Lead Rigger to ensure no solo high-risk work is conducted.

Driving & Site Support

  • Driving company vehicles (valid drivers licence required - for a minimum of 1 year).
  • Tracking fuel usage.
  • Assisting with vehicle maintenance and inspections.
  • Collecting/dropping off vehicles when required.


Requirements
  • Grade 12 / Matric (required).
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in: Telecoms infrastructure, rigging, construction, or a related field.
  • Experience working on outdoor sites and in physically demanding environments.
  • Basic understanding of construction, installations, or infrastructure deployment.
  • Valid driver’s licence with at least 1 year of driving experience.

Advantageous 

  • Working at Heights certification.
  • Basic Rigging certification.
  • Experience in telecoms infrastructure or network deployments.
  • Basic electrical or power systems exposure.
  • Welding or fabrication experience.

Skills and Competencies

Basic Rigging & Construction Skills - Ability to assist with rigging, installations and general infrastructure work on-site.

Tool Handling & Technical Ability - Competent in using hand tools, power tools and basic equipment safely and effectively.

Working at Heights Awareness - Understanding of safety principles when working at heights (formal certification advantageous).

Physical Fitness & Endurance - Able to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, climbing, trenching and working in various weather conditions.

Health & Safety Consciousness - Strong awareness of site safety protocols, with the ability to follow procedures and minimise risk at all times.

Attention to Detail - Ensures installations and tasks are completed accurately and to required standards.

Teamwork & Collaboration - Works effectively as part of a team, particularly in supporting the Lead Rigger and broader field teams.

Communication Skills - Able to follow instructions clearly and communicate effectively with team members and supervisors on-site.

Problem-Solving Ability - Able to think on your feet and assist in resolving basic site challenges.

Reliability & Work Ethic - Punctual, dependable and committed to completing tasks efficiently and to a high standard.

Adaptability - Comfortable working in different environments and adjusting to changing site conditions and operational needs.

Willingness to Learn - Eager to develop technical skills and grow within the infrastructure/rigging field.
